Winter Golf in Murcia: Why October to May Is the Best Time to Play

October to May is golf high season in the Region of Murcia. Winter days in Murcia average highs of around 16-18°C with plenty of sunshine, so the courses are at their busiest and best while northern Europe is wet and cold. A home on a Murcia golf resort is made for the months when you most want to be here.

When is the best time to play golf in Murcia?

From autumn through to late spring. July and August are hot, which is why owners who stay for the summer play at first light and spend afternoons at the beach. Once September eases into October, the whole rhythm of the resorts changes. Tee sheets fill up, the clubhouses get busy and the fairways come into their own.

You can see it in how the courses price their green fees. GNK Golf, which runs the Jack Nicklaus courses closest to several of our developments, treats these months as its peak. Its 2026 rate card sets high season at:

CourseHigh season 2026
La Torre GolfFebruary to May, and September to November
El Valle GolfMarch to May, and September to October

High season on a golf course means one thing: that is when golfers want to play. In Murcia, that is the cooler half of the year.

What is the weather like in Murcia in winter?

Mild, bright and dry most days. These are the long-term averages from AEMET, Spain's state weather agency, for its Murcia station (1984-2010):

MonthAverage highAverage lowSunshine hoursRain days (1 mm+)
October25.6°C13.9°C2173.7
November20.3°C8.9°C1864.1
December17.2°C5.8°C1723.9
January16.6°C4.7°C1893.8
February18.4°C5.9°C1903.6
March20.9°C7.7°C2233.3
April23.3°C9.7°C2563.6

That is around four rain days a month, even in the depths of winter. Mornings start fresh, so a jumper for the first few holes is a good idea, but by mid-morning most people are playing in shirt sleeves. Nearer the coast, San Javier airport's figures are very similar, with December to February highs of around 16-17°C.

Warm enough to enjoy, cool enough to walk 18 holes comfortably.

Which golf courses are near MedSol's resorts?

This part of Murcia has a strong cluster of courses within a short drive of each other, which means you can mix up your week without ever getting on a plane.

  • La Torre Golf – a Jack Nicklaus signature design run by GNK Golf.
  • El Valle Golf – another Nicklaus design, set in a quieter valley landscape.
  • Hacienda Riquelme Golf – the third of GNK's Nicklaus trio.
  • Hacienda del Álamo – an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Dave Thomas at Fuente Álamo, home to our Omala Residences. The course has had a full irrigation upgrade, completed in spring 2025.
  • Corvera – the course at Corvera Hills is due to reopen in Q4 2026, which is exciting news for owners there. It sits close to Región de Murcia International Airport.
  • Condado de Alhama – the owner announced a €15 million plan in June 2025 to reopen the course alongside a five-star hotel, phased through 2026-27. For buyers at Alhama Nature, that is a big part of the story.

A good first winter week is one round at each of La Torre, El Valle and Hacienda Riquelme, so you get to know all three Nicklaus layouts before choosing a home course.

How easy is it to fly to Murcia in winter?

Easy. Región de Murcia International Airport at Corvera handled 949,007 passengers in 2025, and has direct winter flights from the UK and Ireland. For winter 2025-26, Ryanair flew from Dublin, Birmingham, Manchester and London Stansted, and easyJet from Bristol, London Gatwick and London Luton. Alicante-Elche airport, a longer drive up the motorway, adds a wide choice of year-round routes from across the UK and Ireland.

Schedules change each season, so check the current timetable when you book.

What does a winter day on a Murcia golf resort look like?

Here is a typical December or February day for our owners.

Morning: a 9.30 or 10 o'clock tee time, once the dew has lifted. The light is low and golden, the greens are running well and you can see the mountains clearly in the dry air.

Lunch: a long one, outside. On a sunny winter day it is warm enough to eat on a terrace in the middle of the day. Order a plate of Murcian michirones (a hearty bean stew) or a marinera, the region's famous Russian-salad-and-anchovy tapa on a breadstick, and take your time.

Afternoon: a second nine, a walk, or a drive out. Cartagena is an easy trip for its Roman Theatre and harbourfront. Murcia city is at its best in December, when the giant Christmas tree lights up Plaza Circular and the famous nativity figures by the 18th-century sculptor Francisco Salzillo are on show at the Museo Salzillo.

Evening: dinner at the resort or in town, and an early night before tomorrow's round.

What else is on in Murcia from October to May?

Plenty, and much of it is better outside the summer heat.

  • Almond blossom: in February, the countryside around Mula turns white with almond blossom, described by the regional tourist board as Europe's first flowering of the year.
  • Peach blossom: in February and March, the orchards around Cieza turn pink, one of the region's best-known sights.
  • Walking: the Sierra Espuña regional park and the coastal paths of Calblanque are at their most comfortable in the cooler months.
  • Beaches: quiet and sunny, with long stretches of sand for walking along the Mar Menor or at Mazarrón.
  • Christmas and New Year: Murcia and Cartagena put on a full programme of lights, markets and concerts.

Why buy a golf-resort home for the winter season?

Because it matches how people actually use their homes. Many buyers are thinking about swapping part of a British or Irish winter for Murcian sunshine. Those are exactly the months when the courses are in peak season, the weather is at its most comfortable and the region's calendar is full.

A new-build home on a resort gives you all of that on your doorstep, with the golf, the community and the sunshine arriving together.

We arrange and accompany viewing trips across the resorts, and a winter trip is the ideal time to come. You can play a round, see the homes and let us compare Omala Residences, Corvera Hills, Alhama Nature and Santa Rosalia for you honestly, side by side.
