Murcia Weather Month by Month: A Year in the Sun on the Costa Cálida

Murcia is sunny, dry and mild all year. AEMET's long-term figures for Murcia record almost 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and only around 36 days with meaningful rain. Winters are mild, with highs of 16-18°C, spring and autumn are warm, and the sea stays swimmable from June into November.

What is the weather like in Murcia through the year?

The Region of Murcia sits on Spain's south-east Mediterranean coast, and the name Costa Cálida, the "warm coast", tells you most of what you need to know. It is dry, bright and mild for most of the year.

There are two useful sets of figures. Murcia city is inland and has slightly warmer days and cooler nights. The coast around the Mar Menor, measured at San Javier airport, is gentler in both directions thanks to the sea. Our resorts sit between the two, so the reality on the fairways is somewhere in the middle.

What is winter like in Murcia (December to February)?

Winter is the season many buyers fall for. Daytime highs sit around 16-18°C, the sky is usually clear and AEMET records fewer than four rain days a month at Murcia. You still get 170-190 hours of sunshine a month.

Mornings and evenings are cool, so bring a jumper and a light jacket. By late morning it is often warm enough to sit outside for lunch. This is golf high season, and it is when the resorts feel most sociable.

February brings the almond blossom around Mula, which the regional tourist board describes as the first flowering in Europe.

What is spring like in Murcia (March to May)?

Spring is glorious. Highs climb from around 21°C in March to 26°C inland by May, sunshine passes 250 hours a month from April, and the season opens with the fruit orchards in blossom.

  • March: the peach orchards around Cieza turn pink in the Floración, one of the region's signature sights.
  • March or April: Easter week (Semana Santa) processions, followed by Murcia city's Fiestas de Primavera.
  • May: warm enough for the first beach days, while golf is still in high season.

April is a lovely month for a viewing trip: the courses are still in high season and afternoons reach the low 20s.

What is summer like in Murcia (June to August)?

Summer is beach season. July and August are hot inland, with average highs in the mid-30s, so owners play golf early in the morning and head for the coast in the afternoon, where the sea breeze keeps things around 29°C.

The Mediterranean reaches roughly 24-26°C in July and August, and the shallow Mar Menor feels even warmer. This is the time for paddleboarding at Los Alcázares, a boat trip from La Manga, diving at Cabo de Palos, and long dinners outside after dark. Rain is rare: AEMET records less than one rain day a month at Murcia in July and August.

What is autumn like in Murcia (September to November)?

Autumn is a favourite for many owners, and you can see why in the table. September and October still bring highs of 25-30°C, but the sea stays warm, at around 22-24°C, so you can have a morning round and an afternoon swim on the same day well into October.

September also marks the start of the autumn golf high season. GNK Golf's 2026 rate card lists September to November as high season at La Torre, and September to October at El Valle. By November, highs of around 20°C make it ideal walking weather in Sierra Espuña or along the coast at Calblanque.

How many hours of sunshine does Murcia get?

According to AEMET's normals for the Murcia station, about 2,967 hours a year. That works out at over eight hours of sunshine a day on average, from around 172 hours in December to more than 350 in July. San Javier on the coast records around 2,621 hours.

When is the sea warm enough to swim in Murcia?

Most people swim from June to October, when average sea temperatures in the Cartagena area run from around 22°C to 26°C. Hardier swimmers keep going into November at around 19°C. The Mar Menor is shallow and warms up faster than the open Mediterranean, which makes it popular with families and with anyone who prefers calm water.

What should I pack for Murcia?

  • October to April: layers. T-shirts for the day, a jumper and a light jacket for mornings and evenings.
  • May to September: light summer clothes, a sun hat and high-factor sun cream.
  • All year: sunglasses. You will use them in January too.

If you're deciding when to come out, we arrange and accompany viewing trips across the resorts in any month. Between October and May you can see several resorts in a few comfortable days.
