When to View Property in Murcia: The Best Months, Season by Season

Any month is a good month to view property in Murcia, because each season shows you something different. Late February to May and late September to November are the sweet spot: warm, sunny days, golf high season on the courses and resorts at their liveliest for owners. Summer brings beach life; winter brings quiet, sunny golf.

I get asked this more than almost anything else. My answer is always the same: come when you can, and I'll show you the season you've landed in at its best. Here is what each part of the year looks like.

Murcia's golf calendar runs the opposite way to a British one. July and August are hot for 18 holes, so the courses are busiest from October to May, when the days are cooler and still sunny.

Why is spring such a good time to view?

Late February through May is hard to beat. Days reach 18°C to 27°C, the almond trees are in blossom early in the season, and the resorts are full of owners and golfers enjoying the best of the weather.

You can walk the resort comfortably at any time of day, sit out for lunch, and get a real feel for how you would spend a week here. April is my own pick for a first visit: the courses are in top condition, the pools are open and the evenings are long enough for dinner outside.

What does a summer viewing show you?

Summer shows you the holiday side of resort life at full volume. Every restaurant and pool is busy, the padel courts are booked, and the Mar Menor is warm enough to float in for hours.

It is hot, with highs around 34°C in July and August, which is why owners play golf early morning and spend afternoons at the pool or the beach. For a viewing, I plan the resort walk for the morning or early evening and leave the middle of the day for lunch and the beach.

Families often view in summer because it matches school holidays, and it's a great way to see what the children would be doing all day.

Why do golfers love autumn in Murcia?

From late September to November the sea is still warm, the summer crowds have gone home, and golf high season is back. October averages 26°C, November a very pleasant 20°C.

It is a relaxed time to view. You can play a round in the morning, look at homes in the afternoon and eat outside in the evening.

Is winter a good time to view property in Murcia?

Yes, particularly if you are thinking about spending the winter here yourself. January still averages 17°C with around six hours of sunshine a day, which is exactly why so many owners from the UK and Ireland spend the colder months here.

You see the resorts in their quiet, peaceful mode, meet the owners who live here year-round, and find the golf courses easy to book. Evenings are cool, so ask how a home is heated and which way it faces when you view.

One practical tip: flight schedules at Región de Murcia Airport change between summer and winter, so check your route early. Alicante airport, around an hour by car from most of the resorts, has more year-round flights.

How do I make the most of a viewing trip?

• Walk the resort in the morning and again in the early evening to get a feel for both.
• Try the clubhouse and a local restaurant, not just the pool.
• Note which way the terrace faces for sun at the times you'd use it.
• Chat to owners you meet. They are usually happy to tell you what they love about it.
• Book a round or a padel game so you experience the resort as a resident would.
• Build in a slow day. If you enjoy an ordinary Tuesday here, you've found the right place.
